  • Quiet family site with nine hectares of lake filled with crayfish
  • Half an hour's drive from Walibi Sud-Ouest theme park
  • Outdoor pool, bouncy castle, bike and pedalo hire, fishing and café
Barbecues are allowed at Camping du Domaine du Lac de Néguenou. And this is an essential point to remember upon arrival at this Lot-et-Garonne site, for its nine-hectare lake is crammed with tasty crayfish, which you can angle for from a canoe loaned to you – for free – by Jacqueline, Christophe and their friendly team. This is, of course, a lakeside site, set on a quiet 19 hectares in the south of the Lot-et-Garonne department, surrounded by sunflower fields, plum orchards and green hills. Attempts to land crayfish should keep you nicely occupied, or you can hire a pedalo to drift dreamily around the lake's banks. (Not sure if you're up for a pedal ride? Borrow one for free on Friday mornings to see how your pedalling legs cope.) Domaine du Lac de Néguenou is four kilometres from the village of Prayssas, and half an hour's drive from both Walibi Sud-Ouest theme park and the traditional French town of Agen. It's a quiet family site, set up for peaceful family stays with easy access to activities, spectacular views and plenty of leisurely picks. Guests can book in for a massage on selected days of the week, or get active with the different sports sessions running daily. Take time too to plot your trip to Walibi Sud-Ouest, 22 kilometres away: tickets for the theme park also allow for free parking at Camping du Domaine du Lac de Néguenou, saving five euros per vehicle per night.

Local attractions

The town of Prayssas is less than 10 minutes' drive away, or a short ride via mountain bike from the site team. It has a castle and markets to browse around, including the night market on Wednesday evenings from June to September (the Camping du Domaine du Lac de Néguenou team arranges trips if you care to check it out). Less than half an hour away is the traditional town of Agen, home to a Saturday farmers' market selling organic local produce in the town square, Place des Laitiers. Those champing at the bit to shop on any day of the week should make for the 19th-century shopping street Boulevard de la Republique, dotted with boutiques – and terrace cafés to have a recovering sit down at. The 13th-century bridge, Notre-Dame du Bout du Pont chapel and ancient castle ruins of the spectacular medieval town of Villeneuve-sur-Lot can be reached within about 25 kilometres; from there, it's a few kilometres to tiny and pretty Pujols, high on a hill south of Villeneuve, and from there a short drive to the Fontirou caves, made up of seven caverns dating back at least 30 million years.
