Take a deep dive into the French countryside by holidaying right in the heart of the country, in the Puy-de-Dôme region. The verdant grounds of Camping Du Colombier are in the northern reaches of the Auvergne Volcanoes Regional Natural Park, at the foot of a long sequence of volcanoes, the Chaîne des Puys. Needless to say, the surrounding landscapes are pretty spectacular. Despite its remote location, this peaceful site is easy to reach, as it's just a five-kilometre drive from the A89 motorway – and about the same distance from the spa town of Châtel-Guyon (10 minutes’ drive), with its Belle Epoque architecture and vibrant cultural life. But not so fast: before you head into the nearby towns or the mountains, you might want to explore the site that will be your home during your break. Leave the children to make new friends in the play area or at kids’ club, and embrace a leisurely lifestyle with a dip in the swimming pool. Those who fancy a little (gentle) exercise can improve their throw on the pétanque court or hire a bike to see the local area, maybe going as far as the Cascade de l’Ecureuil (25 minutes by bike or a five-minute drive), a waterfall in the middle of the forest. In addition to a restaurant and snack bar, the site has a small grocery store selling local produce. For other necessities, the nearest supermarket is a 10-minute drive away, and there are more options in Mozac (15 minutes’ drive).

不喜欢 We didn't like that the only cubicle toilets were directly opposite the urinal. This made it quite tricky when females are coming out of the toilet with men at the urinal and when there are children around

喜欢 Nous avons été accueilli pour les propriétaires très sympathique, le camping est familial et très agréable...nous étions en camping car au n°38 bien placé....une piscine pour se rafraîchir avec les petits enfants....les sanitaires sont bien entretenus...et nous avons pu nous restaurer sur place le dernier soir .
Nous recommandons sans hésiter le camping le colombier.
Nous reviendrons séjourné en chalet pour visiter les environs. Une carresse a smoki .

喜欢 Lovely site for a one/two night stopover, small family run site with a restaurant on site

不喜欢 The showers and hot water were set at one temperature, and no toilet rolls in the toilets. The pitches were quite close to each other

Deep in a millennia-old lava flow is the Cave of the Volvic Stone (15 minutes’ drive), which has been mined since the 13th century for a dark volcanic rock (the Volvic stone of the name) that's much used in local architecture. Take the miners’ tour, or visit the Grotte des Lumières for an immersive colourful light show projected on the cave walls. Just outside Riom, Parc Mirabel (25 minutes) has treetop adventure courses and the Spider House suspended maze. Don’t worry if you suffer from vertigo: it also has several earthbound attractions, including inflatable games, a petting zoo and miniature golf, plus (in the summer months) assorted water features. In Clermont-Ferrand (35 minutes), the impressive Gothic cathedral was built from the 13th century with dark Volvic stone. Stroll through the city’s narrow streets or along the monumental Place de Jaude, visit the Musée d’Art Roger Quilliot or check out L’Aventure Michelin to learn all about this renowned company.
