If you’re heading for Buller D’Tente glampsite and hoping for a rather large quota of luxury, you certainly won’t be disappointed. At 15 minutes’ drive from historic Doué-la-Fontaine in Anjou, this family-run glampsite has everything you need for peaceful breaks in gorgeous countryside, from the thoughtfully designed accommodation to alpacas on hand for cuddles and feeding sessions.
Buller D’Tente is tops for nature spotting as well; keep your eyes open and you may spot the colony of long-eared owls as well as barn owls, kestrels and bats... in short, this is a splendid place for observing wildlife in situ.
Centred on a historic manor house, facilities on the site cover everything from a cleaning service to breakfast served on your private terrace or locally produced charcuterie and cheese boards for supper (please order in advance on site). A heated swimming pool is open for communal use between June and September, and if you’re travelling with the kids, another brilliant thing about this place is its proximity to the famed theme parks Puy du Fou and Futuroscope.
Environmentally friendly features on site include recycling, low-energy appliances and dry toilets at all the accommodation units. You can also explore the area in green style by cycling the Loire à Vélo bike path (10 minutes’ drive).

Liked Needed a 1 night stay on our way back up towards UK. Ans booked in Advance to stay here.
Beautiful setting. Enjoyed a lovely swim in the pool before we cooked dinner.
All pots and pans we needed provided and fridge to store our food and drinks.
Loved the Alpcas walking around.
Tents were beautiful and very clean. And beds comfortable. Provided our own bedding and you need to provide towels also.
Disliked Not a dislike we would have liked to order breakfast but sign said order by 12.00 and we only check in at 4pm

Local attractions
One of the (many) attractions of Buller D’Tente is the easy access to all sorts of family attractions. Animal lovers can head for Bioparc de Doué-la-Fontaine (10 minutes’ drive); this superb zoo is set in a disused quarry and is home to rhinos, giraffes and big cats. Terra Botanica (35 minutes) is a nature-themed leisure park with waterways to explore on flat-bottomed boats and sculpture trails through a series of fantasy-themed gardens.
Further afield you have all the VR and interactive rides at Futuroscope (an hour and a half), or the inspirational historic pageants with casts of thousands at Puy du Fou (about an hour). Both parks are well-worth making the effort to travel there (and the kids will never forgive you if you don’t).
Most kids will be happy to accompany you to dressage displays at Cadre Noir de Saumur equestrian school (25 minutes). If you do manage to snatch some adults-only time, make the most of it with a visit to the subterranean Cave aux Sculptures, or have a nose around the rock houses, farms and wine cellars in the troglodyte village of Rochemenier (both 10 minutes).
