  • Simple pitches with a warm welcome at a Pembrokeshire rugby club
  • A 10-minute walk from the centre of St Davids
  • Clubhouse on site for food and drink; dogs and kids welcome
Wales is famously a nation that loves its rugby – so what could be more fitting than staying right on site at a Pembrokeshire rugby club? St Davids Rugby Club should make a splendid base for exploring around north Pembrokeshire… To start with, the site is just a 10-minute walk from the centre of St Davids, Wales' smallest city, where there are shops, places to eat and attractions like the cathedral and Bishop’s Palace. Coastal favourites like Solva, Porthclais and Whitesands beach are all nearby – and if you need any tips on places to go, you’ll be in the right place to ask a local. These pitches are safe and flat, but they don't have access to any bathroom facilities so you'll need to be in a self-contained unit to stay here. You’ll also be most welcome to join the locals at the clubhouse (open Wednesday and Thursday evenings, and during the weekend), which has a pool table and dartboard as well as serving a good range of food and drinks. (Pint of beer that helps support a community enterprise? Be rude not to…) Don’t worry, you won’t have to get involved in any scrums when staying at St Davids Rugby Club as the pitches are well away from the rugby pitches. What you will be doing by staying here is helping to support Wales’ most westerly club, with profits from the campsite going towards keeping the game running in the UK’s smallest city.

What customers say

Great spot near St David's town and beaches. Friendly staff and quiet vibes are a hit. Basic, clean restrooms are accessible 24/7 but can be tight when crowded. Good value, though some mention waste disposal could be better.

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked The proximity to the centre of St David’s. We liked being able to have a drink in the club house and the peace and quiet at night.

Disliked It would have been nice to have had a pass code for shower and toilet. We would be happy to pay extra..

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked Good location for St Davids, the club was open for a match, very friendly staff and enjoyed the match with a pint. Access to the pitches is to your left as you come into the car park down a narrow'ish gap on the end of the buildings. There was a good bathroom available with shower, hot water basin and toilet that needs a key code to access.

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked This is a fairly new venture for this Rugby Club
So let’s support them
It’s very convenient for lovely St.Davids
The grass is kept short and is very flat and level.
please note
The turn in seems very tight when coming in from Fishguard
PLEASE park away from the railings to enable the spectators a clear view of the pitch

Disliked £20 a bit steep considering the facilities are not always available.
An Alpha Numeric code did give access to a combined shower, toilet & washroom.
I feel sure in time the committee will see the sense in providing grey and black water discharge points as we expect to see in any continental style “Camping Car Aire” its what makes them so successful!

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked We had a Iovely stay, was very peaceful and safe site, and the staff at the rugby club were very friendly. Would definitely recommend it. And would stay there again if we were at St David’s. We were given the code for toilet and shower which were basic but clean.

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked Great location for the town. A lovely little city. Cathedral is stunning. A few lovely shops and pubs. We used the celtic cruiser to get to the harbour and Whitesands Bay. The nearest beach is near but steep to get to. Very basic site but level and lots of space. Need to be self sufficient.

Disliked It did say there was an chemical toilet but we couldn't find it.

Local attractions

Start your stay with a little stroll around St Davids, visiting the cathedral, Bishop’s Palace and Oriel y Parc gallery, before heading out of town on a path to Caerfai beach or Whitesands Bay. The latter is a well-known surf location, so you may prefer to drive there (five minutes' drive) if you’ve got boards with you. Walks on the Wales Coast Path are highly recommended, of course – perhaps along to St Non’s Chapel, to the little harbour at Porthclais or all the way along to the pretty village of Solva (10 minutes' drive). Heading north, Porthgain and the Blue Lagoon at Abereiddy (both 10 minutes) are also popular spots. This stretch of coast also attracts a whole lot of wildlife, and the best way to see some of that is on a boat trip to Ramsey Island, which you can organise from St Davids. Back on dry land, kids may well be intrigued by a trip to Dr Beynon’s Bug Farm (three minutes’ drive).
