Old Orchard FHU cement/asphalt campsite
Liked Beautiful setting. The Basecamp bar/restaurant/shop was modern and pristine. Good-sized pitches with plenty of privacy. Good range of play equipment for younger children. Shower and loo facilities were generally clean and in good order. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Take-out pizza from Basecamp was astoundingly good.
Disliked For the number of pitches, one more shower and toilet block wouldn’t go amiss: even being cleaned twice-daily, showers could get a bit grubby. Water pressure in showers was a bit low.
Make sure to bring a standpipe adapter to fit water hose - they do sell them for a small cost at Reception, but I was lucky to get one of the last ones on our visit, and would’ve been stumped without it.

Powered cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite
Liked Plentiful toilets and showers. Well-maintained grounds and amenities. Convenient location (cheap train to London from Broxbourne, good road links to M11, M25 etc). Surprisingly rural feel to the site, despite its location just on the edge of town. Friendly staff.
Disliked Entirely beyond the site’s control, some clientele were a bit loud and boisterous, particularly in communal areas - though even they did tend to tone it down after about 10pm. The goose droppings referred to elsewhere were noticeable but not particularly problematic.

Powered grass campsite
Liked Very friendly site staff, tranquil location, superb night skies, well-maintained showers and loos.
Disliked Staying in depths of winter, the drinking water standpipe froze. Chem toilet disposal is a bit basic (take gloves!) Grass pitches can get quite muddied and soft: bring boots and do try not to walk mud into the shower rooms - poor site staff were fighting a losing battle to fix problems caused by some rather unmindful campers on this front.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite
Liked Quiet location; shower & toilet cubicles clean and warm; plenty of play equipment for younger children; great views; well-maintained paths through the animal paddocks.
Disliked Some play facilities (eg play barn) seemed a little tired / could do with refreshing; Friday family night was very popular with non-resident visitors, though in fairness everything quietened down nicely before 10pm; grey water / Elsan point a bit rustic.
