  • Adults-only farm site 10 minutes from English Riviera beaches
  • Outdoor haven: trails, tors and moors of Dartmoor within 30 minutes
  • Minibus service and fully licensed restaurant and bar on site
When the choice between beachy hols on the English Riviera and lush wanders in stunningly scenic national parks leaves you dithering, make your decision a doddle with a stay at Widdicombe Farm Touring Park, a family-run and adults-only site 10 minutes’ drive from the seaside town of Paignton on the Devon coast. The site's about 15 minutes from the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and half an hour from Dartmoor National Park, so there are plenty of spectacularly green vistas to hike, bike or drive through within easy reach – not to mention waterfalls, river banks and craggy moors... If the first thing into your suitcase was a swimming cossie, you’ve packed well for this particular getaway: Paignton’s Preston Sands beach is less than 10 minutes away (there’s a shuttle service from the site). If your quick sandy stroll seems to be picking up speed, turn it into a long-distance jaunt by accessing up the South West Coast Path at either end of the beach. There’s a small shop on site for groceries if you fancy bringing picnic supplies on your day trips, or you can hold off for a home-cooked dinner at Poppies, the on-site restaurant (open from Easter to September). After that, wander over to Gordon’s bar for a drink, or to take in the live entertainment.

Liked Lovely clean site. Staff very welcoming. Toilets & showers were emasculate. Very peaceful. Gordon’s bar was good & drinks prices were reasonable. Food looked lovely. Mini bus into Torquay was excellent door to door service. Will defiantly be going back.

From the manager: Thank you for letting others know that your stay was a good one and the facilities you used were clean, tidy, reasonably priced and useful. We'll see you next time.

From the manager: Again a lovely review form guests who have had a good time - particularly in the bar. It is fun and as we say 'It is what you make it' so obviously you were up for a good time here and you did enjoy yourselves. I will make sure everyone knows that you have noted the cleanliness of the facilities as they do work hard to keep everything nice and tidy for you. Lovely pictures too.

Good for the 1 or 2 night stay, car was essential for us.

Liked Facilities where excellent, good farm shop. Nice field to walk the dogs.

Disliked Can't walk anywhere. Never tried the cafe so can't comment on that. We were on O2 and we had no signal if you wanted WiFi you had to pay extra. We prefer an afternoon drink but the bar did not open until 7.30pm.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: It's a shame our location didn't suit you. I am on O2 and don't find a problem getting a signal but I know it can depend on individual phone models. I'll find out which pitch you were on and go up to test the signal strength to check it out though as it may be a weak spot. We don't open the bar during the day as it has never proved worth while. Most people are out and about so do not need that particular facility during the day.

Liked Clubhouse really good. Good entertainment and venue.
Hot showers and they are proper showers not push button.
Nice staff on reception who are helpful and welcoming.
Lovely food in Poppies.

Disliked The site is looking tired and the pitches are looking scruffy.
The showers (bluebell field) were not that clean.
Dogs in the clubhouse should just not be allowed. There is no need to bring them in there. It's bad enough listening to them barking on pitches!
Thankfully Poppies has 2 separate areas for dogs and without!

From the manager: Thank you for saying so many nice things about your experience here. I'm afraid it's been very hard maintaining a lovely look on the park when the grass is all dried up and even some of the trees are changing colour already. Hopefully, on your next visit it will all be lush and green again looking nice and tidy as usual. Regarding dogs in the bar, well, we too have an exclusive dog friendly area designated for those that want to bring their well behaved dogs in the bar with them. We also say no furry friends in the bar on entertainment nights so we are trying to meet everyone's needs but we know we are not going to be able to please everyone on this matter. Sorry if you had an issue on this occasion.

Liked Location handy
Dog facilities
Clean amenities.
Good shower.
Facilities
Quiet site no kids

Disliked Very loud road noise
Standard pitch tight to maneuver really need a motor mover
False information from site warden about all bbq banned by government Inc gas ones! Site rules may be, but don't tell us nonsense that's not fact.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: You are incorrect when you talk about us giving you false information regarding a government ban on BBQ's. We did not state this on our information to guests. We simply said that following advice given by the Caravan & Motorhome Club to members on fire hazards during the heatwave period, we asked guests not to use live flame equipment outside or BBQ's as this posed a significant fire risk during the extreme heatwave conditions. We appreciate that cooking outside is a huge part of the fun and experience of camping/caravanning and you may have missed out on that. However, safety of all our guests, staff and the fact we are surrounded by tinder dry farmland meant we took a measured approach minimising the risk to all.

Liked Absolutely love staying here. Friendly and helpful staff, lovely welcome to guest's and dogs who get a little doggie welcome pack (nice touch.)
Great showers no push buttons which is great ( very clean ). Entertainment and games in Gordon's bar almost every night. Lovely food at poppies also take aways available some nights.
Nice size pitches with electric hook up, if you have one of the top pitches there's a lovely view. Most importantly for us a dog field, almost forgot the little fram shop which wasn't there the first time we came which sells lovely fresh veg etc and doggie ice cream.
All in all another brilliant stay.

Disliked Nothing

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks for your high scoring review and your lovely comments. We all work hard making sure people can enjoy their time here so it's great to read that we did well.

Local attractions

This is Agatha Christie country, so if you’re looking to solve the mystery of what to do during your hols, you're sorted here too. Make your way into Torquay a 15-minute drive away for the Agatha Christie Mile – a walking tour of spots that inspired the author – and Kents Cavern, a prehistoric cave that served as Hampsley Cavern in her novel The Man in the Brown Suit. For a glimpse of Christie’s personal life, Greenway House at Brixham is where she spent summer and Christmas hols. If Greenway House whet your appetite for stately homes, zip along to Compton Castle (five minutes) for house and garden tours, or Cockington Country Park (10 minutes) for strolls around the extensive grounds and a glimpse of Cockington Court (now a craft centre). Not enough? Venture further afield for Coleton Fishacre, Buckfast Abbey and the 16-sided A la Ronde, all within 35 minutes. There are plenty of museums, steam trains and model villages nearby to keep history buffs entertained, but those who prefer more of a living and breathing experience should pad over to Paignton Zoo (within 15 minutes) instead.
