Really, what a spot… The Follies Glamping sits in a meadow surrounded by orchards and ancient woodland, just a couple of miles outside of Maidstone in Kent. Those who stay here can collect some carrots to feed to the site's horses up close and look forward to other simple pleasures such as gazing up at the stars or walking to one of the local pubs…
The nearest pub is a characterful venue that serves food, just a 15-minute walk away from the site in the village of Boughton Monchelsea. Another pub (with a huge beer garden) is in Loose village, 25 minutes’ walk away through an ancient woodland – or a bit longer if you stop to paddle in the stream.
Back at The Follies, dogs are welcome to join you. The hosts have set up each glamping unit with its very own loo and luxury shower, as well as outdoor seating, a firepit and a brick barbecue where wood and charcoal are both supplied to help you spend as much time outdoors as possible. You also get your own fridge and electric supply, plus a day bed, hammocks and bean bags to unwind on. Nearby, there’s a communal kitchen for you to use with all utensils, plus tea, coffee, marshmallows and cereal.
Travelling further afield? You could easily stop here overnight on the way to or from the Eurotunnel, as it’s only about a 45-minute drive away.
