  • Peaceful Pembrokeshire site in a wildlife haven just off the A487
  • A 10-minute drive from Newgale beach; 20 minutes from St Davids
  • Picnic tables on site; pub two minutes' walk and bus stop close by
Hankering after a handily located park in Pembrokeshire with fantastic countryside views? Here’s one for you: Pelcomb Cross Campsite, just off the A487 and less than 10 minutes’ drive from the amenities of Haverfordwest and the nearest beach at Newgale. Eye up the lush nature from the pitches (some of which have a gentle slope) and look out for wildlife at the park’s pond too: it’s a popular spot for critters such as otters, herons, buzzards and red kites. There’s also plenty of space for human guests to relax, whether they’d like to chuck a ball around or just park up for a meal on one of the picnic benches. Eats are easy to sort as firepits and barbecues are allowed at this rural site (as long as they’re kept off ground to avoid scorching) and a pub is two minutes’ walk away if you’d prefer someone else to do the cooking. A petrol station with a well-stocked convenience store and a fish and chip shop are half a mile away. If you'd like to roam without the car, it's handy to note there's a bus stop about 80 metres from the site. As well as being close to amenities, the whole park feels safe and secure as it’s monitored by CCTV. Facilities centre around a smart modern bathroom block with underfloor heating, a couple of family-sized showers and an accessible toilet and shower. There’s also a pressurised boiler system to make sure there’s oodles of hot water for freshening up. Please note that there are no electric vehicle charging points on site. If you would like to 'trickle charge' your vehicle, please speak to site staff first.

Whitesands electric optional grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch (maximum 6 metres)

Liked Very well organised and well set-up. I had no direct (in person) interaction with the host, and I never needed to - positive in my view. Had no issues with access, the pitch or the electric hookup.

Disliked I used the washing up station 4 times during the stay and ony once it had hot water, even though it was within the running schedule. There were instructions to call Chris if any issues with anything, but I could do the washing up with cold water as well. More of a nuisance than anything else.

Liked Very convenient site, owner friendly and welcoming. Changed our pitch for us as we needed a very flat one! Top toilet was very close👍
Allowed us to stay one night, we were only in the area for a concert. It's been a while since we used our little tent, but it was great.

Panoramic electric optional grass tent pitch (sloping)

Liked Great location for discovering Pembrokeshire. A great pub, pretty much on the doorstep. Facilities very good & always clean. Friendly hosts. Would definitely like to visit again.

Disliked Our pitch (tent) was on a slight slope (which we knew), so worth bringing things to put under tables to make level.
May have just been whilst we were there, or maybe it's a constant, because of location ; always a breeze / wind to adapt to.

Liked Lovely little campsite with great facilities! Owner Chris was welcoming and very helpful! The WiFi worked great and is free, loads of info on the toilet block for takeaways and restaurants and which ones deliver to the campsite which was a nice touch! Haverfordwest town is 2 mins by car and Newgale beach is less than 10, the pelcomb inn pub is literally just outside the gates too! We had a cracking time! We will definitely be booking again soon!

Abermawr Sunset fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked We had a really lovely stay here. Despite being so close to Haverfordwest, the site is in such a peaceful, rural location and was incredibly quiet, even in the height of summer. The sunset from our pitch was beautiful!

For a couple looking to switch off, relax and enjoy the surroundings, it was perfect. The site had everything we needed, was clean and well looked after, and made a great base for the weekend.

Chris provided clear check-in instructions beforehand, which made arriving really straightforward.

Overall, we had a great stay and would happily return.

Disliked Nothing really; there was nothing that stood out as a negative during our stay.

When coming into Pelcomb Cross from Haverfordwest, your Satnav may tell you to turn immediately by the Pelcomb Inn. This is not correct. The site entrance is 80 metres past the pub. If you are coming from St Davids, make sure to turn 80 metres before the pub. As you approach, look out for the site signs. What3words (for the main gate): before.risky.shameless.

Local attractions

Here for a beach break? Set off for Newgale with its surf schools galore (10 minutes' drive) and check out the vast sandy shores of Tenby (40 minutes) as well. This top seaside resort has several takeaways for snacking on fish and chips with a view of the sea. If the tiddlers have had enough time with the bucket and spade, set off to admire the animals at Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo (25 minutes). You could also interact with more creatures by booking a beach horse-riding trip from Nolton Stables (10 minutes). Take to the water after trotting on the sand during a visit to the Blue Lagoon aqua park (20 minutes), or dive into the Abereiddy Blue Lagoon (20 minutes), a brightly coloured pool that gets its turquoise hue from a slate bottom. Afterwards, get out on the sea with a boat trip from St Davids, a tiny city that’s also worth dropping by for the intricately designed cathedral and Bishop’s Palace (20 minutes).
