Hardstanding area

  • Dog-friendly touring site 15 minutes’ drive from Chichester
  • A 10-minute drive from Goodwood Estate; 15 minutes to the coast
  • Hardstanding pitches with access to electricity and water
Going to Goodwood? Perhaps planning a beach day or two? And maybe adding a little wander around Chichester to the mix? You’ll have found a fab spot for all that at Flintstone Cottages, in a handy rural West Sussex location about 15 minutes’ drive from Chichester. This place is run by owners with over 10 years of holiday letting experience, and it’s been designed with self-sufficient motorhomes and caravans (ie, with their own toilet and washing facilities) in mind. It’s a rural spot, with the only noise coming from occasional passing along the nearby railway line. You’ll be parked up at a large hardstanding area where pitches all have access to 16-amp electric hook-ups and water points and you’ll have space to put an awning up. It’s a dog-friendly site, so your furry pal can come along and join you on your outdoor break. Barbecues are permitted on site here, so pick up supplies for these and your picnics at the supermarkets in Chichester or Bognor Regis (also 15 minutes’ drive away). There are also a few pubs within five minutes’ drive of the site. The Goodwood Estate is a 10-minute drive away, and there are lots of great coastal spots within easy reach too, including Pagham Harbour for birdwatching and West Wittering for family beach days.

What customers say

This is a peaceful, well-maintained site offering isolation and countryside views, with helpful owners. While some guests find the adjacent train line noticeable, others report no issues, especially from hardstanding pitches or when trains stop at night. The site currently lacks shower, toilet, and waste disposal facilities, though the owner has plans for improvements. Electricity and water are available, and guests appreciate the secure, gated access and quiet atmosphere for recharging.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Jo was lovely
Beautiful sunsets over the surrounding fields
Brilliant to be able to let ourselves in and out of the site via padlocked gate

Disliked This was pricy for what we got. We paid £35 a night for a space with electricity and a water supply.
There is no facility to dispose of waste water, toilet contents or rubbish bags.
The site needs care- the electric points and taps were deep in long grass and weeds so we were lucky it was dry weather! There is an outside washing up sink but it was rusty and filthy so unusable. These are minor things that an afternoon’s work would sort out but I think they need to be sorted at that price.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Lots of space and level hardstanding pitches which weren't swimming in mud! Nice view of surrounding fields. A two mile walk away over footpaths and fields is the best Indian restaurant I've ever been to! If you decide to take the foot path there is only one badly signposted bit, at the beginning, after you take the style onto a short section of road you then need to turn right into some ones driveway (Mill house or something with Mill in the name), if we hadn't been given directions were wouldn't have known, after that an easy and pleasant (if muddy) walk and worth the effort for the amazing food! Lots of lovely walking trails a short drive away.

Disliked We had noted from the website that there was no toilet or shower facilities but hadn't also realised that there was also no grey water disposal- which as we were only staying one night was actually fine. The water was off when we arrived but we were kindly given the option to fill our tank from the house supply. If you are noise sensitive you will need ear plugs/ noise cancelling headphones or to stay elsewhere, as the railway line is directly adjacent to the site and it is the mainline to Brighton so trains run every few minutes during the day. They did stop between around 12.30 to 6.30am Sunday and you get a glimpse of bygone times and the sound of birds in these moments..

Local attractions

Goodwood Estate (10 minutes’ drive) means different things to different people – some come for the horse racing, others for the motor circuit and many for the events such as the annual Goodwood Revival or the Festival of Speed. Whatever you’re coming for, Flintstone Cottages makes a handy place to stay. The lovely city of Chichester (15 minutes) should certainly feature on your schedule, to visit the cathedral and Pallant House Gallery and maybe catch a show at Chichester Festival Theatre. A little way outside of the centre are Fishbourne Roman Palace (20 minutes) and the wildlife trails of Chichester Harbour National Landscape (half an hour). For more local history, head to Arundel Castle (15 minutes) or the Weald & Downland Living Museum (20 minutes). If seaside days are more your style, make tracks to the popular town of Bognor Regis (15 minutes) or the soft sands of West Wittering (25 minutes), a favourite for watersports and family days.
